Asian Golden Cat

Asian Golden Cat

Species name: Felis temmincki

Other names: Temminck’s Cat (English); shonali biral (Bengali); jin mao (Chinese)

Description: Similar in some ways to the African Golden Cat, the Asian Golden Cat has a coat of many different colors. It can be plain, golden brown, red, gray, black, unmarked, or marked with spots and stripes.

One way to recognize this cat is by the white patch seen on the underside of its tail. Weighing 26 to 33 pounds (12 to 15 kilograms), the Asian Golden Cat is slightly heavier than the African species. Found in deciduous and tropical rain forests, it lives in China, Thailand, Malaysia, and other Asian countries. Its favorite foods include hares, lizards, and birds.
